Installing vim spell files on FreeBSD 7.0

I installed vim71 from the ports on a FreeBSD 7.0 machine and wanted to do spell checking on a German text. But the vim installation did not provide any other language files than the English ones.

I therefore wrote a little script that downloads and installs the needed language files into /usr/local/share/vim/vim71/spell/. You can find this script here if you are interested in it.

You need to run it as root like this:

./install-spell-files language

To activate the new language within vim, you need to issue

:setlocal spelllang=language
:set spell

within vim. You can also place these commands into your .vimrc
